Resilience

(n) The capacity to recover quickly from difficulties; toughness.

If genetic factors explain resilience, you are looking at the source of mine. The women in this photo have been through some novel-worthy shit. Experienced anger, grief and pain. Yet each time they all found a way to bend themselves back into their original shape, just stronger, wiser and tougher. Understanding that it takes self-compassion, finding meaning and a loving village to build yourself back up.

You don’t “bounce” back, you “find” your way back. It’s a road that you have no directions for, nor you know what it’s supposed to look like at the end. But you take care of yourself and allow your people in, to take the lead when your feet get tired.

Resilience takes time. You build yourself into it. Include in your daily habits, practices for your mental flexibility, like yoga, meditation, journaling, conscious eating, etc. The more flexible we become with the mind, the more resilience will flow when its needed. Build your village, surround yourself with those who will hold you and lead the way until you can take the wheel again.
